Green Cards Expiration Date Extended

USCIS made a welcome move (effective September 10, 2024) that automatically extended the expiration date of permanent resident cards (green cards) to 36 months (3 years). #greencard



This is the case if the application to replace the green card is in place, and was made properly, per USCIS guidelines.

 

Granted the aforesaid, it follows, if one has an expired green card and a receipt notice of a pending application to replace the green card, this is sufficient proof of:

 

(1.)     Continued green card status.

(2.)     Employment authorization (needless to say).

 

In general, extending the expiration date of green cards to 3 years is of great help to folks who, for one reason or another, run into longer processing times.
