Fabulous! So, here comes Employment Authorization Document (EAD) aka work permit!
For certain types of EAD renewal applicants, the Department of Homeland Security recently published a final rule that permanently increases the automatic extension period from up to 180 days to up to 540 days. Thus, for the applicable renewals, the extension is up to 18 months – that is year and a half!
While the mentioned rule became active on January 13, 2025, it applies to certain appropriately filed renewal EAD applications pending on, or filed on, or after May 4, 2022.
Obviously, this new extension is of great help to EAD renewal applicants because it shields them even further from a lapse in employment authorization granted instances of lengthy processing times.
